Altamira, Mexico: New Fortress Energy (NFE) has successfully initiated LNG production at the Altamira Fast LNG 1 unit, marking a significant advancement in the LNG sector. This achievement was made possible with the support of ECOnnect Energy's innovative jettyless IQuay® technology.

NFE chose jettyless for more sustainable LNG production

ECOnnect Energy's jettyless IQuay system allows for seamless LNG transfer without the need for traditional jetty infrastructure, significantly reducing environmental impact and enhancing operational flexibility. Since the IQuay made history with jettyless LNG transfer in 2017, the design has been adapted for multiple applications, such as green ammonia production, as well as downstream carbon-free fuel and CCS. The flexibility of the transfer system enables universal vessel connection with minimally intrusive installation.

The IQuay technology's adaptability and efficiency has set a new standard in the LNG industry. By eliminating the need for extensive shore-based infrastructure, the IQuay system significantly lowers project costs and environmental footprint.

About New Fortress Energy and the Altamira Project

New Fortress Energy Inc. is a global energy infrastructure company dedicated to addressing energy poverty and accelerating the world’s transition to reliable, affordable, and clean energy. NFE owns and operates natural gas and LNG infrastructure and an integrated fleet of ships and logistics assets to deliver turnkey energy solutions to global markets. The company’s assets and operations reinforce global energy security.

The Altamira Fast LNG project, located off the coast of Tamaulipas, Mexico, leverages NFE’s proprietary Fast LNG technology. This approach combines existing FLNG technology with a modular, offshore design, allowing for efficient liquefaction of natural gas. The project received an export permit from Mexico’s Ministry of Energy in June 2023, authorizing NFE to export up to 7.8 million metric tons of LNG through April 2028.

During an earnings call in November last year, NFE’s CFO, Chris Guinta, noted that the project achieved first gas in just 31 months following the final investment decision made in March 2021, which is much faster than comparable projects. The Altamira project will continue to benefit from rapid and flexible operations thanks to the jettyless IQuay technology. Their collaboration with ECOnnect Energy is part of a broader strategy to provide low-cost LNG through modular and mid-sized liquefaction technology. This approach is intended to lower costs and accelerate deployment compared to traditional liquefaction facilities.

Commited to sustainable energy solutions

The success of the Altamira project highlights the importance of collaboration and innovation in the energy sector. It sets a precedent for future projects, demonstrating how cutting-edge technology can overcome logistical challenges and deliver efficient, sustainable energy solutions.

"We are proud to contribute to the success of the Altamira Fast LNG project, enabling NFE to fulfill their strategy to provide clean, low-cost LNG through fast-track modular and scalable technology. We’re always happy to collaborate with companies whose visions align with ours. The Altamira project exemplifies how advanced solutions can enhance operational efficiency and environmental sustainability, underscoring our commitment to driving forward-thinking, sustainable energy solutions globally."

As LNG continues to play a key role in energy systems, attention is increasingly turning to how it can be imported and regasified more efficiently.Traditional solutions are well-established, but often come with high costs, long timelines, and complex permitting. As a result, alternative solutions for offshore regasification are gaining traction.
