Leading the Future of Energy Innovation

ECOnnect Energy is proud to be named a finalist for the 2024 Innovation Award by the Research Council of Norway. Our commitment to research and innovation in sustainable energy solutions has earned us a spot among Norway’s top innovators.

The Innovation Award by the Research Council of Norway (Norges Forskningsråd) is one of the country’s most prestigious recognitions, celebrating advanced achievements that apply research to drive real-world advancements. This year, ECOnnect Energy is honored to join the ranks of Norway’s most innovative companies as a finalist for the 2024 Innovation Award.

This nomination places us among a select group of industry leaders acknowledged for transformative contributions to technology and sustainable impact. It is a testament to the dedication of our team, whose commitment to research-driven innovation has redefined possibilities within energy infrastructure.

Each year, the Innovation Award highlights exceptional projects across Norway’s diverse industries—from public to private sectors—that create value through research-based innovation. This year’s competition was especially strong, with over 80 nominees representing excellence in science, technology, and business. Our selection as one of the five finalists underscores the impact of our work in advancing sustainable energy solutions.

The Research Council’s award criteria emphasize projects that push industry boundaries while creating meaningful benefits for society. We’re proud to stand alongside other pioneers whose innovations range from energy solutions to cutting-edge technologies addressing global challenges.

Innovation at the Core of ECOnnect

At ECOnnect, innovation is more than a value—it’s a driving force behind everything we do. A prime example of our commitment to innovation is our ship to-shore energy transfer technology, which enables efficient energy delivery from offshore sources to land without the need for large, permanent installations. This technology enhances the way energy is transported, reducing environmental impact and making clean energy accessible even in remote areas where traditional infrastructure isn’t feasible.

"Innovation is central to what we do, and this recognition reinforces the importance of staying focused on tackling complex energy challenges. We’re grateful for this honor as it motivates us to keep pushing boundaries and strengthens our dedication to making a lasting impact." - Morten Christophersen, CEO.

Spread mooring uses multiple anchors and standard components for quicker, less intrusive installation, while dolphin mooring relies on fixed structures that require heavy civil works and longer lead times. This makes spread mooring more flexible and environmentally friendly, with higher operational uptime and easier adaptation to floating transfer systems like the IQuay C-Class. Recent projects show that spread mooring is becoming a preferred choice for LNG terminals where speed, sustainability, and adaptability are priorities.

ECOnnect Energy is pleased to announce significant progress in the development of the IQuay Regas Terminal, having recently secured two pre-FEED contracts for the fast-track modular regasification (regas) solution. The IQuay Regas Terminal consists of a Floating Storage Unit (FSU), a modular floating regas platform (the R-Class), ship mooring and subsea or floating pipelines to shore for transfer of high-pressure gas. These two milestones underscore the growing market interest in fast, floating, and flexible alternatives to traditional regasification infrastructure.
