AZANE Fuel Solutions Awarded NOK 442 million in ENOVA Funding

ECOnnect Energy’s daughter company, AZANE Fuel Solutions, has been awarded NOK 442 million in funding from ENOVA to develop three ammonia bunkering terminals along the Norwegian coast.

The terminals, planned in Florø, Mongstad and Risavika, will be among the first of their kind in Europe and represent a critical step toward establishing a functional value chain for zero-emission maritime fuels. Strategically located along the west coast of Norway, the facilities will support both offshore operations in the North Sea and coastal shipping, serving national and international vessels.

The project directly addresses one of the main barriers to maritime decarbonisation: the “chicken-and-egg” challenge, where vessels require available fuel infrastructure before investing in new technology, while infrastructure depends on committed demand. By enabling safe and efficient bunkering of renewable ammonia, the terminals lower the threshold for shipowners to adopt zero-emission solutions.

For ECOnnect Energy, the project is closely aligned with our mission to develop scalable infrastructure solutions that accelerate the energy transition. Through our daughter company AZANE Fuel Solutions, this project contributes to the development of practical, safe bunkering infrastructure for zero-emission maritime fuels.

The ENOVA support reflects strong confidence in both the technology and the execution capability behind the project. Subject to final investment decisions, the terminals are planned to be operational by 2029, contributing to reduced emissions, strengthened Norwegian competitiveness, and a more sustainable future for maritime transport.

Disruptions to critical infrastructure expose the limits of fixed jetties. This article outlines how the IQuay systems’ compact, movable components allow terminals to be deployed fast. This enables re‑establishment of ship‑to‑shore connectivity, adds redundancy, and keeps essential LNG flows running during repairs.
