2025 has been a landmark year for ECOnnect Energy. From first gas flowing through our IQuay system at Wilhelmshaven II to growing industry interest in the IQuay Regas Terminal. Coupled with international recognition, this year has shown that ECOnnect’s solutions are shaping the future of marine energy infrastructure.

January – Strengthening Alignment for the Year Ahead
We opened 2025 with a full-day board seminar to onboard our new board members and provide a comprehensive overview of our strategy, organization, and operations. Throughout the month, the management team and all departments engaged in dedicated workshops to sharpen priorities and ensure alignment across the business. We also conducted a site visit to La Santa Maria (LSM), where significant work was underway to prepare the system for an upcoming international project — a hands-on effort involving multiple teams across the company.

February – National Recognition for Innovation
In February, ECOnnect was awarded the prestigious EY Entrepreneur of the Year – Norway, honoring the company’s strong growth, visionary leadership, and impact on the energy transition. This recognition marks an important milestone for our founders and our team, and positions ECOnnect to represent Norway at the global finale in Monaco later this year.

March – Governance, quality and proven performance in Altamira

March marked continued progress in governance and quality, with key sustainability priorities clarified through our double materiality assessment and a successful ISO 9001 audit. At the same time, our IQuay® F-Class system in Altamira, Mexico, delivered strong operational performance above name-plate capacity under demanding offshore conditions. The month also included preparatory work and a site visit to La Santa Maria, our IQuay C-Class in Skien, as the system was readied for its next international project.

April – FSRU Excelsior arrives and system approved

April marked major progress in Wilhelmshaven, where ECOnnect’s jettyless IQuay system forms the core transfer solution for Germany’s second LNG import terminal. Excelerate Energy’s FSRU Excelsior arrived on site, completing the final preparations. Shortly after, the IQuay system passed SAT with TÜV SÜD and German authorities, receiving full approval for operations. With installation complete and testing cleared, the project was ready to move toward first gas.

May – First gas at Wilhelmshaven II
May marked a historic milestone for the Wilhelmshaven II project. ECOnnect’s IQuay F-Class system entered active operation, enabling jettyless LNG transfer to Germany's energy network for the first time. Gas from the FSRU flowed steadily into the OGE pipeline at full capacity. This achievement reflects close collaboration with TES, ENGIE and DET Deutsche Energy Terminal GmbH, and demonstrates how scalable, offshore infrastructure can strengthen European energy security.

June – Global recognition in Monaco and a national technology milestone
In June, ECOnnect represented Norway on the international stage at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year World Finals in Monaco, joining innovators from more than 50 countries. ECOnnect was also named the winner of the 2025 Norwegian Tech Award. The jury highlighted the innovation, scalability, and environmental benefits of the IQuay technology.

July – Summer interns at the heart of operations
July was a key month for ECOnnect’s 2025 summer interns. Four talented interns, with backgrounds in civil and marine engineering, entrepreneurship, and strategic communication, engaged deeply with real-world projects across the company. Their contributions, fresh perspectives, and collaborative spirit helped advance ongoing initiatives.

August – Getting to know the Board even better
In August, ECOnnect continued strengthening collaboration across the company by getting to know our Board members through informal coffee sessions. This year, Torkel Storflor Halmø became Chair, while Hilde Merete Aasheim and Kristin Holth joined the Board, bringing extensive experience from industry, finance, and energy. These casual gatherings allowed the team to connect with the Board on a personal level, fostering trust, alignment, and a shared sense of purpose as we continue driving innovation in marine energy infrastructure.

September – Engaging at Gastech Milan
In September, ECOnnect participated in Gastech Milan, one of the world’s largest gatherings for the energy industry. Our team connected with more than 200 industry leaders, customers, and partners, showcasing our solutions and sharing insights from our projects. The event reinforced the importance of flexible, reliable, and scalable energy infrastructure in today’s complex energy landscape, while providing valuable opportunities to build relationships and explore new collaborations.

October – Norway’s fastest growing tech-company and increased interest for the IQuay Regas Terminal
October was a month of major achievements for ECOnnect. We were honored to be ranked #1 on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50, recognizing our continued growth and innovation. Additionally, our IQuay Regas Terminal gained traction in the industry, with media coverage highlighting the secured pre-FEED studies and growing interest in our solution.

November – Witnessing our technology operating above expectations
In November, our leadership team and board visited the Wilhelmshaven II terminal alongside partners and stakeholders. DET reported that the terminal has been operating at 75 % capacity in Q3, well above the European average. In 2025, the FSRU Excelsior is expected to feed up to 1.9 billion m³ of natural gas into the German grid, increasing to 4.6 billion m³ annually in the following years, covering around 8.5 % of Germany’s gas demand. Seeing our IQuay system in full operation is a proud moment and a strong validation of our floating, flexible infrastructure approach, proving that jettyless marine energy terminals are not just the future — they’re already here.

December – Norway’s most prestigious growth award
In December, ECOnnect Energy was named Norway’s National Gazelle Winner, out of more than 3,000 qualifying companies nationwide. This independent recognition celebrates our stability, reliability, and ability to deliver complex marine energy infrastructure projects at scale. For our partners and customers worldwide, it reflects confidence in solutions that are fast to deploy, flexible, and low impact, helping secure energy supply and support the transition to cleaner fuels wherever and whenever it’s needed.

Spread Mooring vs. Dolphin Mooring

Spread Mooring vs. Dolphin Mooring

Spread mooring uses multiple anchors and standard components for quicker, less intrusive installation, while dolphin mooring relies on fixed structures that require heavy civil works and longer lead times. This makes spread mooring more flexible and environmentally friendly, with higher operational uptime and easier adaptation to floating transfer systems like the IQuay C-Class. Recent projects show that spread mooring is becoming a preferred choice for LNG terminals where speed, sustainability, and adaptability are priorities.
