The founders of ECOnnect Energy have secured a spot in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year national finale after winning the regional finale in Oslo on November 12.

Founded in 2012 by students at NTNU, ECOnnect Energy has developed a groundbreaking floating transfer solution that eliminates the need for permanent onshore infrastructure. This innovation enables sustainable and efficient energy transport from ship to shore.

“Our floating solution is faster, more cost-effective, and avoids damaging the seabed,” explains CEO Morten Christophersen.

Meeting Europe’s Energy Needs

ECOnnect has become a key player in Europe’s energy sector, supporting 8.5% of Germany’s gas demand through its flexible technology. A partnership with hydrogen company TES in 2022 brought this solution to Wilhelmshaven, Germany, strengthening the country’s energy supply during critical periods.

“We’re proud to contribute to energy security while staying true to our values of sustainability and innovation,” says CFO Miriam Wennberg.

The EY Entrepreneur of the Year program recognizes visionary leadership and innovation across more than 60 countries. Beyond financial performance, the program emphasizes qualities like long-term vision, social responsibility, and environmental awareness.

The national finale will take place on February 6, 2025, in Oslo, where winners will compete in categories like Entrepreneur of the Year, Young Entrepreneur, Scale-Up, and ESG.

“To reach the national finale is an incredible honor,” says founder Magnus Eikens, “and it inspires us to keep driving innovation in the energy sector.”
